So when Grace Yoga opened inside The Barlow, it caught my attention right away.
Spotlighting local businesses is one of my favorite parts of this work. Grace Yoga stood out immediately, not just because it's new, but because of who built it and how seamlessly it fits into one of Sebastopol's most vibrant gathering spots.
A Studio Built by Someone Sebastopol Already Trusts
Grace Yoga was created by my friend Gail, who also founded Ruby Pilates, a studio so many locals already know and love in downtown Sebastopol.
Now she's brought that same energy to The Barlow.
The moment you walk in, you understand why. It doesn't feel like an addition to the space. It feels like it was always part of it. Great food, wine, and local makers surround you, and right in the middle of it is a place built for slowing down.
Solving a Real Need at The Barlow
Let's be honest: a destination like The Barlow is full of energy. Food. Wine. Shopping. Conversation.
What it didn't have was a place to actually pause.
A space to breathe.
A class to take before or after a glass of wine with a friend.
A reason to stay just a little longer.
Grace Yoga solves that beautifully.
You can take a class, meet a friend, grab a coffee or a glass of wine afterward, and suddenly an ordinary stop at The Barlow becomes a full afternoon. That's a big part of why people are drawn to Sebastopol in the first place, life here feels connected, easy, and community-driven.
What Gail Wants You to Feel
I asked Gail the question I always ask the people building spaces like this: what do you hope someone feels the moment they walk in?
Her answer: welcomed, wanted, and loved. Happy and supported. All the good things.
Like this is their home away from home.
Talk to Gail for five minutes and you can tell it's not a marketing line. It's exactly how she has run every space she's built, Ruby Pilates before this, and now Grace Yoga.
Sound Healing: A Different Kind of Class
Grace Yoga also offers sound healing sessions, led by Elise. I asked her what actually happens for someone during one of these sessions.
Her answer stuck with me.
It can be deeply meditative, relaxing and calming. It can also be cathartic, a way to work through and release things people are carrying. As she put it, it's really different for everybody, and every experience is invited.
This is the part people end up coming back for.
A Perfect Fit for Sebastopol's Personality
Sebastopol has a style all its own: creative, warm, community-first, and proudly local.
Grace Yoga fits right into that. A yoga and sound healing studio, built by a familiar local name, tucked inside a food-and-wine destination people already gather at, that's a very Sebastopol combination.
As someone who spotlights local businesses because they shape our neighborhoods just as much as the homes we live in, it's exciting to see a space like this become part of the daily rhythm of Sebastopol.
